Keeping Our Eyes on Jesus

apr 14“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith;” Hebrews 12:2a (KJV)

What are you looking at?

I wonder how many times has God asked us that very question, “My child, what are you looking at?”

We all know the familiar passages of scripture, where Peter walks on the water (Matthew 14:22-33).  Peter looks down and begins to sink.  What was he looking at?

I can imagine our heavenly Father thinking (and possibly shaking His head): “Peter, what are you looking at?   I’m out here, not down there.  Come to me.  Keep your eyes on me.  Life is in me, peace is in me, hope is in me.  Every good and perfect thing is in Me.”

What are we looking at today?  Our past failures?  Our problems, our circumstances?  The Bible tells us to forget those things that are behind. God says don’t be anxious, don’t worry.  Paul tells us to look toward Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.

Turn your eyes upon Jesus.  Look full at His wonderful face.  And the things on this earth will grow strangely dim.  In the light of His glory and grace.

“Heavenly Father, please help us to focus on You.  Please help us to walk in Your will and Your perfect way.  Thank You for being our guiding light.”

For His Glory
