Surrendered To His Commands

oct-3“But if you warn the righteous person not to sin, and he does not sin, he shall surely live, because he took warning, and you will have delivered your soul.”  Ezekiel 3:21 (ESV)

Nothing like an early morning alarm to get me up and running on a Monday. It’s the beginning of another work week and my weekend body doesn’t want to move forward, so I hit snooze.  And then I kept hitting snooze until snooze gives up.  It’s a crazy habit this battle between me and the clock.  I’m the one setting the alarm at night.  I’m the one deciding how late I will be up.  What’s the real problem – I just don’t want to get up yet. So what happens when I don’t heed the alarm?  My morning goes crazy.

Ever been there when getting ready and out the door overwhelms us before the sun shines?  Anything and everything goes wrong because we’re rushing to catch up the time we spent enjoying snooze.  We ignored the alarm, and the result hits us square in the mirror – bad hair day and no time to redo. Out the door we run, attitude following close behind and all because we snoozed and ignored the alarm.

While ignoring my alarm clock probably won’t result in a critical situation, bypassing God’s warnings can totally knock me off my feet.   His warning signals are definitely ones we shouldn’t ignore – red flags that let us know we need to proceed with caution or flee.  Consequences spelled out that we too often ignore.  Why?   Because we often feel like we know what’s best.  We quickly survey the situation and allow emotions and our weaknesses to overrule what God knows is right.  Can’t explain it but certain boundaries give us the false pretense that we are missing out, God’s holding back and we should just ignore and move on.

Dangerous place to land when we carelessly dismiss God’s warnings.  He alone sees the big picture – the total ramifications of us moving outside of His protection.  God is fully aware of the dangers lurking around the corner of our next decision; and if we calculate without Him, we will reap more than we ever imagined.

Simple solution – seek God’s wisdom.  Dive deep into His words.  See how men and women responded in obedience or ignored His commands.  Glean from their mistakes and humbly chose to obey rather than ignore.

“Father, we want to be women who listen, learn and apply Your truths to our lives.  We want to be emotionally strong and passionate followers who surrender to Your loving commands.”
